Violent Night (2022)

This has the makings of a Christmas classic! The film manages to take a more modern and cynical version of Christmas that has become far too prevalent in modern times and adds the one thing that is sorely missed from other "modern takes" on Christmas: an actual love for Christmas and what it truly means.

David Harbour and Leah Brady's performances help give this movie so much of its heart and charm! Harbour manages to play the role of a violent and jaded St. Nick with not only the earnest fatigue and pain needed to make the role believable, but the writing given to him enables his abilities as an actor to be well realized as a well-defined Santa who manages to regain his belief in the winter holidy. As for Brady, the child actress does a wonderful job endearing the audience with such a lovable and endearingly believable child who while good at heart, still feels like a little kid with all of the quirks and youthful energy. That is not to undersell the remaining cast, who manage to garner great moments of comedy, drama, heart, and action.

While the movie may not win everyone over, I can at least say that it puts more than enough heart into this truly heart-pounding slaughterfest of creative, well-paced, and downright brutal violence that leaves you with covered mouths and widened eyes as the carnage manages to hit the right levels of brutality without feeling like a downright horror flick. I highly recommend this film to anyone looking for the right mix of fiery action and warm spirits around the holidays
